I had a drug problem as a child; my mother woke me up every Sunday and drug me to church! I stole that line from some clever person. If I knew who, I would tell you but I have seen and heard this used many times. Probably because it had a ring of truth to it for many ministers. I learned of Jesus and His incredible life throughout my childhood through the devotion of many Sunday School teachers, preachers, choir directors, and youth/children leaders. I was at a children's camp in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina when it all came together and I understood that Jesus died on the cross for me and that if I believed in His life, death, and burial, and that God raised Him from the dead after three days, turned away from my sins and confessed that He was in control (Lord) of my life, I would be saved. It was the following Spring, Palm Sunday 1969 to be exact, that I made a public profession of faith at my church, First Baptist Church, Avondale Estates, Georgia.
In the summer of 2009, as I sat on our back deck having morning coffee one morning in June, I unmistakably felt God calling me to pastoral/preaching ministry. Suddenly every experience I had ever had in life made complete sense to me. I went back to school at age 50 and earned my Bachelor of Science Religion, Masters of Divinity Professional Ministries, and Doctor of Ministry Pastoral Leadership degrees. After 10 years of education and ministry, God called me to Peninsula Community Church in Selbyville, Delaware, where I currently serve as senior pastor. Synopsis for my personal mission statement is "changing the world one life at a time" and has become such for PCC as well.
Joy has been such an asset as our praise and worship leader since September 2019. She also serves as an administrative assistant regularly. Her devotion to her church and Lord is noted and admired by the entire PCC family and we will miss her dearly as she moves to Florida October 2020. Our heartfelt prayers and well wishes go with her as she pursues new horizons. The praise team is prepared and devoted to continue leading in meaningful worship each Sunday until God leads a new Praise and Worship Director to us. Be in prayer for Dr. Smith and the PCC Leadership Team as they search for the person God intends for Peninsula Community Church.
The Leadership Team manages the business and ministries of the church.
